On Friday, the 22nd of January 2010, I got on a bus. At the next stop, a girl got on. She looked at me and took the seat in front of me on the upper deck. She started to look at some documents. After a while, I saw them accidentally. They were a pile of CVs belonging to PhD holders. She seemed about my age, late twenties. I was curious to know what her occupation was to be recruiting such academic people. She then started to look at other documents. This time, inquisitive to know her more, I looked at them intentionally. It was an application form for a research grant. I assumed she was applying for a research grant and the CVs were of those who had received the grant previously. I continued to look at them over her shoulder and discovered her subject, which was anthropology. I wanted to talk to her to see if we could share some thoughts. I tried to talk to her several times but I couldn't think of an appropriate introduction without sounding impolite. Before I could overcome my conflict, which lasted for thirty minutes, she got off the bus. When she was about to stand up, she looked at me. I thought she knew what I was doing.
After seeing the girl on the bus, I started to think about how I could possibly see her again. I remembered I had two previous chance meetings where I met the same person twice accidentally and that happened with two different people in the previous year, 2009. The first of these encounters was with a girl called Azusa, who I knew from Japan. Since we both moved to the UK, I hadn't seen her until I ran into her at an art fair in London. About 2 years and 9 months later, I met her in a supermarket by chance. The other encounter was with a guy called Nick, who was a total stranger. I first saw him on a coach but didn't engage in conversation with him. 2 days later, when I got on a bus, someone tapped me on the shoulder from behind. It was him. He remembered me.
I wondered if there was any kind of gravitational force between people and if it caused these meetings to happen. Through organizing my memory, I noticed two similar features in these encounters. Firstly, it was a Monday, when these second meetings happened. The other was the figure 2, which appeared in the time scale between the first and second meetings. When I recalled the locations and my movements in these situations, one thing came to mind as a similarity, which was taking a 134 bus. When I saw Nick for the second time, I was on a 134 bus. I also used a 134 bus to get to the supermarket where I met Azusa for the second time.
Besides these similarities, I needed to think about the gravitational force itself. When I was building up my own theory of the gravitation, I discovered the existence of an external force. This force enhances the power of the gravitation and is likely caused by the similarities. I went back and looked at my behavior around the times I had these encounters to seek more similarities. The things I came across were Yorkshire Tea and my mobile phone. On the days I had the second encounters with Azusa and Nick I had Yorkshire Tea for my morning tea. Also, I was using a so-called smart phone at the time I met them for the second time. Although I changed the mobile phone after I first saw the girl, I kept it with me to satisfy the similarities.
The first Monday after I saw the girl was the 25th of January. The similarities were in accordance apart from the number 2, as it was 3 days after the first meeting. I didn't see her.
On Monday, the 8th of February, 2 weeks and 3 days since the first encounter, all the similarities were met for the first time. I didn't see her.
According to the formula I was using, the next chance to meet her would come on Monday, the 22nd of March, which was exactly 2 months from the 22nd of January, the first meeting. I didn't see her.
After this, I had four Mondays until the 19th of April, 2 months and 4 weeks since the first meeting.
There was one occasion where I saw a girl who looked like the girl on a bus. It was Wednesday, the 3rd of March. She got on the bus at a different stop from the time I saw her last. Again she sat on the seat in front of me. Unfortunately she wore sunglasses, so that I wasn't able to see her face properly, and she dressed in an altogether different style. Although I couldn't see her eyes, there was something familiar about her face. She got off at the same stop, although I couldn't definitely identify the girl. The similarities were not concurrent.
The next time the similarities will meet is 2 years later. Monday, the 23rd of January 2012.
